If I file Chapter 7 can I keep my home?

Answer:
Probably, yes. If you are current with your mortgage payments, you can afford to continue paying the payments and your house has little or no equity (i.e. you owe more on the mortgage than the house is worth), you can still file Chapter 7 and keep your home. If you do have equity in your home, you may still be able to file Chapter 7 without losing your home. Maryland has a homestead exemption which protects a certain amount of equity under certain circumstances.
